IV.  Membership

     Categories of Membership:

A) LEGIONARY - regular membership with full voting rights and privileges

B) AUXILIARY - regular membership, as above, when a minimum of eight Legionary members are registered.

C) CIVILIAN - regular membership with full voting rights limited to non-military unit business only.

D) CALONE - regular/associate membership, voluntary or probationary, with voting rights accordingly.

     Membership age regulations:

A) LEGIONARY - 18 years or older

B) AUXILIARY - 18 years or older

C) CIVILIAN - 18 or with parent/guardian permission

D) CALONE - 16 years (w/permission) or older

IV.  Membership statements.

Membership in Legio III "Cyrenaica", Ceasar's Conquerors, and its affiliated Auxilia, is open to the ages mentioned in Article III, above.

V.  Mission Statement.

Legio III "Cyrenaica", Caesar's Conquerors, and the affiliated Auxilia, are Ancient Historical Living History Impressionist Organizations representing the famous Legio III that was formed approximately 31 B.C. and its accompanied Auxilia.  Time periods represented will cover the period from 31 B.C. through 550 A.D. Main emphasis will be on the Flavian Period from approximately 66 A.D. through 100 A.D.

This organization is designed for the enjoyment of its membership as well as performing Historical Displays, Parades, Events and other gatherings, in order to represent Military and Civilian personas of the Ancient Roman Military and Civilian Life, in an educational setting for ourselves, and others, in Historical Reenactments and Living History encampments and functions.

As of this writing, this organization is for display and Historical interpretation only, and is not a combat unit.

Note: Before fielding Auxilia, we must have 8 registered Legionary Soldiers.

VI.  Uniform Requirements and periods of fulfillment.

A)  LEGIONARY

1.  Required for first six months from enlistment date:

     1  - Tunic, white (linen or wool)
     1 - Balteaus w/cingularum
     1 - Pair Caligae
     1 - Pugio

2.  Required by the eighth month from enlistment date:

     1 - Tunic, red (linen or wool)
     1 - Gladius w/baldric
     1 - Helmet

3.  Required by the twelfth month from enlistment date:

     1 - Scutum
     1 - Pilum
     1 - Lorica

B.)  AUXILIARY

1.  Required for first six months from enlistment date:

     1 - Tunic, Unit Color (linen or wool)
     1 - Pair Caligae or appropriate footwear
     1 - Gladius w/baldric

2.  Required by eighth month from enlistment date:

     1 - Spear
     1 - Helmet

3.  Required by tenth month from enlistment date:

     1 - Scutum
     1 - Lorica (Hamata, Segmentata, or Squamata)

C.)  CALONE:

Required for first six months from enlistment date:

     1 - Tunic w/belt (linen or wool)
     1 - Pair Caligae
     1 - Pugio

D.)  CIVILIAN:

Appropriate non-military attire

VII.  Membership Information:

Membership into Legio III "Cyrenaica", Caesar's Conquerors, or any of its affiliated Cohors, will be by one of two methods.  These methods are: Sponsored and Non-Sponsored.

A.) SPONSORED:

1.  Sponsored individuals will be recommended and sponsored by existing members of the Legion and its Affiliates, in good standing.  If required, they will make application and appear before the unit membership.  All actions will be the responsibility of the sponsor.

2.  Sponsored individuals will be in a probationary status for a maximum of four (4) months from their enlistment date.

B.)  NON-SPONSORED:

1.  Non-Sponsored individuals, meaning those persons that desire enlistment from outside the membership of Legio III and its affiliates, will make application and will appear in person before the membership for enlistment.

2.  Non-Sponsored applicants will be in a probationary status for a minimum of six (6) months or a maximum of twelve (12) months from their enlistment dates.

During their probationary period, Probationers may have input regarding all aspects of the organization, but will be excluded from voting until their period of probation is expired or ended by the organization membership.

VIII.  Unit membership/Military status for organizational purposes.

PROGRESSION:

A.) Rank structure with one (1) to eight (8) members of Legionary Status.

     1.  TESSERARIUS - Officer of the Watchword and group Commander
     2.  LEGIONARY - Regular soldier (Miles)
     3.  IMMUNES - Specialty Legionaries

B.)  Rank structure with one (1) to (9) members of Legionary Status.

     1.  OPTIO - Commander in the field
     2.  TESSERARIUS - Officer of the Watchword and Second to the Command
     3.  LEGIONARY - Regular soldier (Miles)
     4.  IMMUNES - Specialty Legionaries

D.)  Rank structure with one (1) to eleven (11) or more members of Legionary Status:

     1.  PILUS PRIOR - Commander in the field, Unit Centurion
     2.  OPTIO - Second in Command in the field
     3.  SIGNIFICER - Office in Charge of the Standards and Camp
     4.  TESSERARIUS - Officer of the Watchword and Sergeant of Legionaries
     5.  LEGIONARY - Regular soldier (Miles)
     6.  IMMUNES - Specialty Legionaries

E.)  Rank structure with six (6) to nine (9) members in Auxilia Status.

     1.  TESSERARIUS - Officer of the Watchword and Sergeant of Auxiliaries
     2.  AUXILIA - Regular Auxilia Soldier

F.) Rank structure with ten (10) or more members in Auxilia Status.

     1.  DECURION - Auxilia Commander in the field.
     2.  TESSERARIUS - Officer of the Watchword and Sergeant of Auxiliaries
     3.  AUXILIA - Regular Auxilia Soldier

Minimum Uniform Requirements
(see procurement requirements elsewhere in the text)

1.  2 Tunics *, 1 white and 1 red either of linen or wool construction (for Legionary Miles)

2.  1 Balteaus with cingularum (for Legionary Miles)

3.  1 pair of Caligae (other period footwear optional)

4.  1 Gladius with baldric

5.  1 Pugio Dagger (for Legionary Miles, optional for Auxilia)

6.  1 Lorica.  This may be either a Segmentata, Hamata or Squamata

7.  1 Helmet

8.  1 Scutum

9.  1 Pilum (for Legionary Miles, Spear for Auxilia)

VIII.  Organizational Officers

Note:  Persons may hold one or more of the listed positions.

1.  Commander:  This individual will be in charge of all activities of a Military nature as well as having leadership in all other activities.  He will be in charge of all meetings, gatherings and functions of Legio III and its affiliated organizations.

2.  Secretary:  This individual will be in charge of the minutes of all meetings, gatherings and functions.  He will relate all to the publisher of the Unit Newsletter (if any) and will be the person responsible for contacting unit members for meetings, etc.  He will also be responsible for all elections and will open all meetings prior to any Commander's Comments.

3.  Sergeant at Arms:  This individual will be responsible for keeping all gatherings and functions at a peaceful and respectful operation.  He is under the supervision of the Commander.

4.  Treasurer:  This person will be in charge of all monies collected or in possession of the organization.

5.  Supply Officer:  This person will monitor all aspects of unit supply and the status of individual's equipment.  He will also be responsible in the endeavor to have all needed personnel equipment ready for all unit-sanctioned functions.

*NOTE:  Appropriate Tunic Color with Braccae or Trousers for Auxilia
